“For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.” - II Cor 5:1
Willie Brown Jr., son of Willie Brown, Sr. and Iva Irene (Cobb) Brown, was born on October 17, 1938 in Douglas County Missouri. He departed this life on February 8, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center in Springfield, MO at the age of 75 years, 3 months and 22 days after a brief illness.
Willie grew up in the Douglas and Ozark county area and attended Mountain Grove schools. In 1959 he was united in marriage to Wanda Lou Martin in Dora, MO and the couple made their home in Mountain Grove until their passing. Two daughters were born of this union: Tamela Joan and Elizabeth Ann.
Willie and Wanda worked at Brown Shoe Company in the Mountain Grove and Cabool plants where Willie was a foreman for many years. After retiring from Brown Shoe Company, Willie stayed close to his farm raising cattle, horses and chickens and always had one of the best gardens around. He loved his horses and horseback riding with his trail buddies and was always ready to hook up the boat and head to the lake for a good day of fishing or spending a rainy afternoon in his recliner chair with a good western novel. Ask anyone who knew Willie and they can tell you about how much he loved his family, his neighbors and his friends. He was the one that was always there quietly helping out when someone was in need, and most often would just take the initiative to do those things that were needed without being asked. You could ask any of his neighbors and they will tell you about how Willie was always there when there was need in the community. Ask any of his family and they will tell you how he was loved by everyone, how he led by example and how he lived a life of hard work in order to provide for his family, making sure that they always had what they needed. They will tell you that he was a beloved and devoted Brother, Husband, Father, Grandpa and Great Grandpa and how much that he loved the Lord Jesus as his Savior.
Willie was preceded in death by Wanda, his wife of 50 years, by his parents and 5 older siblings.
He is survived by his daughter Tamela Messerer and husband Lane of Mountain Grove, his daughter Beth Ann of the home, 4 grandchildren: Shawsha, Seath, Kahley and Ariel. 2 great grandchildren Sheridan and Jacelyn. 5 brothers: Robert, Paul and Lee Brown of Mountain Grove; Ival Brown and wife Patty of Salem, MO; Alfred Brown and wife Clovis of Ozark, MO. 5 sisters: Irene Rhoads of Nampa, ID; Leotta Jefferys of Norman, OK; Judy Jefferys of Oklahoma City, OK; Eunice Walker and husband John of Manistique, MI; and Judy Fitzhugh and husband Garland of Ozark, MO, many nieces, nephews and other family who will greatly miss him.
In the first Corinthian letter, Paul wrote:
“But as it is written, Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God has prepared for those who love him.”
Today at this very hour, Willie’s eyes have seen as they have never saw, his ears have heard as they have never before heard, and his heart and his spirit are completed, being filled with the glory and majesty of the Most High God.
