William “Bill” Edwin Hegle, son of the late William Edward and Helen (Smith) Hegle, was born on October 16, 1921, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and departed this life on October 29, 2009, in the Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan, Missouri. He was 88 years of age.
Bill grew up in Rochester, New York, and graduated from Aquinas Catholic High School. Following graduation, he entered the United States Army, serving during World War II with the 103rd "Cactus" Infantry Division in Central Europe and Rhineland in Southern France. While in the military, he served as a foreign language interpreter and also was a physical education instructor, teaching combat Judo. He worked as a contract negotiator for the Naval Department until his retirement.
Bill was united in marriage to Jane Alsup in 1959 in Washington, D.C.
He earned a B.S. in Foreign Service from the Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., and a L.L.B. from George Washington University also in Washington, D.C. While attending law school, he was employed as a police officer on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son: William “Billy” Hegle in 1975; and by one brother: Owen Hegle.
He is survived by his wife: Jane Hegle, of their home in Mtn. Grove; one son: John Hegle and his wife, Staci, of Springfield, Missouri; three daughters: Kris Hegle and her husband, Bob Deroy, of Springfield, Missouri, Linda Susan “Susie” Hegle of Mtn. Grove, and Nancy Hegle of Rockville, Maryland; one sister: Lila Warren of Washington, D.C.; and a host of other relatives and friends who will miss him very much.
