Walter Doty, son of the late Herbert Ival and Jewel (Sails) Doty, was born January 30, 1930 in Wright County and departed this life February 13, 2009 at St. John’s Regional Health Center in Springfield, Missouri. He was 79 years, and 14 days of age.
Walter grew up in Wright County and graduated from Mountain Grove High School in 1948. He married Delores Strunk on December 10, 1951. Four children were born to this union.
Walter was a dairy and beef farmer his entire life. He had been on the same farm since he was 16 years old. Walter loved to train, break, and ride horses and he also enjoyed square dancing. But most of all he enjoyed his family, spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He greatly enjoyed taking his grandchildren on trail rides. Walter was a very knowledgeable man and worked hard all of his life.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother: Wallace Doty, and by one sister: Ruth Keowen.
He is survived by his loving wife of their home, Delores; one son: Gary and his wife, Tina; three daughters: Diana Short and her husband, Terry, Janet Peterson, and Brenda Smith and her husband, Kyle, all of Mountain Grove; sixteen grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; two nieces and two nephews; and a host of relatives, friends, neighbors, and church family that will miss him dearly.
Funeral Service: Tuesday, February 17, 2009 at 2:00 pm at Friendship Baptist Church.
Visitation: Monday, February 16 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm in the Craig-Hurtt Chapel.
