Victor D. Richards, son of the late Earl Richards and Irene (Geyer) Richards, was born October 8, 1952, in Wellman, Iowa. His journey on earth ended on June 29, 2023, in his home in Mountain Grove, Missouri. He was 70 years, 8 months, and 21 days of age.
Vic wore many hats along his journey with us. He was a long-haul truck driver when his journey brought him to the love of his life, his “Honney”. Their love for each other was sealed in Holy Matrimony on August 29, 1987, in Mountain Grove. His job as a truck driver gave them grand adventures together.
Vic was suddenly injured while on the road. Following his injuries, he enrolled at Mountain Grove Vo-Tech School attending electronics repair classes. That is where a friendship was made that would take him on to his next journey with Phil’s Electronics. Phil and he would work side by side for years repairing anything from televisions to the town's police radios, and everything in between. This is where he gained his interest in law enforcement.
Vic would pursue a career in law enforcement by obtaining his POST certification from the Law Enforcement Academy. He worked for both Wright and Texas County Sheriff’s Offices for many years. He was known for being a respected officer helping those in need wherever and whenever. Vic was never known for being a still body, always finding things to help others within the community. His journey of service opened the door for him to become a firefighter for the Mountain Grove Volunteer Fire Department. He would later go on to run for City Council and become an Aldermen continuing to support his community to the best of his ability. He was so grateful for the chance to serve his town. He often could be seen riding his custom trike along with military veterans to honor our fallen heroes. This was very close to his heart, as two of his sons served our country in the Armed Forces.
Vic had many four-legged loves in his life. He was known to bring home injured animals and doctor them back to good health. He always had wisdom to share with his kids and grandkids. Stories that seemed to never end but always had a lesson to learn from. His kitchen table debates will be missed.
Vic is survived by his loving wife, Marilee Richards of the home; son, Victor (Mellony) Richards of Success, Missouri; son, Daniel (April) Rosso of Hartville, Missouri; daughter, Summer Rosso of Mountain Grove, Missouri; grandchildren, Carter Richards, Cryia Rosso, Myria Rosso, Natalie Rosso, Marc Rosso, Megan Rosso; great-grandchildren, Saya Rosso and Dant’e Rosso; three brothers, Tom (Lila) Richards, Bill Richards, and John Richards; Vic’s four-legged buddy, Ollie Boy; as well as many other friends who will miss him greatly.
Signing off from this journey, “Slow Hand.”
There will be a Celebration of Life to honor Vic on October 8, 2023, in Mountain Grove, Missouri. Please be watching Facebook for any updates on service information.
