Venita Sue Bates, daughter of the late Elmer and Ruby (Wolfe) Kimrey, was born July 20, 1946 in Roby, Missouri, and departed this life March 24, 2017 at her home in Huggins, Missouri. She was 70 years, 8 months, and 4 days of age.
Venita grew up in the Roby community and was a graduate of Plato High School class of 1963. She was united in marriage to Lester Bates on August 7, 1964 in Roby. Two children were born to this union.
Venita was a loving wife and mother who took great pride in caring for her family. She enjoyed being able to stay home and help take care of her grandchildren. She enjoyed being outdoors working in her flower and vegetable gardens, canning, fishing, and playing volleyball with her family. She was also a great cook and enjoyed quilting and reading.
Venita is survived by her husband of 52 years, Lester Bates of the home, one son, James Bates and wife, Carla, of Huggins, one daughter, Penny Cornelison of Huggins, one brother, Murlin Kimrey and wife, Jondalynn, of Marshall, Missouri, one sister, Eda Rogers and husband, Elmer, of Lebanon, Missouri, five grandchildren, Stephanie Amos, Ryan Bates, Erin Bates, Amber Hildebrand, and Whitney Cornelison, four great-grandchildren, Hannah Curtis, Isaac Amos, Lukas Cornelison, and Phoenix Hildebrand, and many other relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.
