Van Wade Elliott

August 3, 1938 — September 26, 2024

Mountain Grove

Van Wade Elliott, a beloved figure in our community, passed away peacefully at the age of 86 on September 26, 2024. He was born in Festus, Missouri to Will and Velma (Penner) Elliott, where Will worked as chief herdsman on Selma Farms. They returned to the Vanzant community where his parents grew up. He began his education at Coble one-room school. Around his 5th grade year, they moved to Mountain Grove where he proudly graduated in the MGHS Class of 1956.

In 1957, Van married his high school sweetheart, Pat Holland, and together they built a life rich with love and community involvement. Van was actively engaged in numerous local organizations, including the Kiwanis, Sideliners, City Council, City Planning and Zoning, Housing Authority, MSHHA football referee, Saddle Club, Tri-County Baseball, Mountain Grove School Board, and member of the Missouri State Board of Education.

He worked for several businesses throughout his life, including Caterpillar in Illinois, drove milk routes, operated his cattle hauling business, and was an over the road owner-operator truck driver for over 25 years. After his retirement, he also drove for Clinton Lumber Company in Cabool and owned Elliott’s Panther Freeze from 1967 to 1980.

Van enjoyed fishing, but even more loved the relationships he built. Many lasting memories were made over the years. Van and Pat had an unyielding love for all kids. They were caretakers, mentors, and friends to generations of kids and continue to hold close relationships with many of them. His role as “Bucko” carried over to the many kids he loved and connected with while fishing, watching them play sports or traveling with them on his many adventures. He was known for his generous spirit and willingness to help others.

Van is survived by his loving wife, Pat Elliott, and his children, Kenny Elliott, Libby Brill (Rob), Kelly Elliott (Kim), and Missy Glenn (Tony), 14 grandchildren: Rheanan Lemaster (Scott), David Harris, Jared Harris (Darcy), Megan Brill (Zach), Jon Harris (Nickie), Tam Pexa (Shawn), Brandon Elliott (Lyndsey), Matt Bennett, Jason Bennett, Mackenzie Elliott (Jacob), Whitley Karanja (Karanja), Allie Glenn, Kennason Glenn, and Hollen Glenn, 26 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren, one brother-in-law, Jack Holland, who was long time running buddy and sport enthusiast, and two special sisters-in-law, Anita Holland and Dorrie Sullivan. He had a special bond with his nephews, Derek Holland and Jeff Holman. Van Wade leaves behind a legacy of kindness, community service, and a love for family that will not be forgotten. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

In lieu of flowers, the Elliott family is requesting memorial contributions be made to the Mountain Moving Ministry of Mountain Grove.
