Terry Lee Hutsell, son of Bobby Lee Hutsell, Jane Marie (Dowsey) Hutsell Carter, and Basil Carter, was born October 1, 1961, in St. Louis, Missouri. He passed away May 26, 2023, surrounded by family and friends in Springfield, Missouri, at 61 years of age.
Terry graduated from Mountain Grove High School in 1980 and moved to Springfield, Missouri, a few years later. He worked for Bass Pro Shops Granddaddy Store for many years where he made many lifelong, loyal friends.
In his spare time, Terry enjoyed going to movies, listening to music, trying new restaurants, and spending time with family and friends. He especially enjoyed watching his niece and nephews’ sporting events and rarely missed games or meets. He loved kids and loved spending time with them. He called his great-niece “Squirt” and was able to spend several special days in the last week of his life with her.
Terry was saved at a young age at First Free Will Baptist Church in Mountain Grove. He attended services at Oak Grove Free Will Baptist when he was able to be home on the weekends. He called it his home church and considered them family.
Terry was preceded in death by his father, Bobby Hutsell, his mother, Jane Carter, his paternal grandparents, Guy and Leona Hutsell, his maternal grandparents, Elmer and Ruth Dowsey, his paternal grandmother, Amy Carter, and a brother, Steve Carter.
He is survived by his dad, Basil Carter, his sister, Lisa Alkire and her husband, Ralph, all of Mountain Grove, Missouri, his brothers, Dan Carter of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and Tim Carter of Mountain Grove, Missouri, his sister-in-law, Terrye Carter of Mountain Grove, Missouri, his niece, Ashley Otwell (Dalton Yarber) his nephews, Bobby and Carter Otwell, John (Ashley) Carter, Joel (Kelsey) Carter, and Jordan (Kadie) Carter, great-nieces and nephews, Piper Marie “Squirt” Yarber, Logan, Noah, and Hudson Carter, Lincoln and Emerson Carter, two very special cousins, Chris and Madison Dowsey, and he had an amazing group of friends in Springfield who were like family to him. Everyone who knew and loved him will miss him, his sense of humor, and his big personality.
