Steven B. Carter

November 11, 1959 — December 23, 2015

Steven Basil Carter, a man of God, a teacher, a son, a husband, a father and a grandfather, was born on November 11, 1959 and earned his heavenly reward on December 23, 2015 after a yearlong battle with a brain tumor.

Steven attended Mountain Grove Schools and graduated from MGHS in 1978. His teaching career began in Kirbyville, MO after graduating from SMSU (now MSU) in May 1990. After one year at Kirbyville, Steve started teaching 2nd grade at Mountain Grove Elementary and spent the next 24 years touching the lives of many 2nd and 4th graders. He earned his Masters Degree in Administration from William Woods in 2006 and retired in May 2015 after 25 years of teaching.

Steve grew up attending Oak Grove Free Will Baptist Church and was saved at the age of 12 at a Friday night revival service held by Rev. RE Helsley. He was baptized the same weekend (May 19, 1972) and joined the church that Sunday night. Serving God in many different jobs over the years Steve has been a Sunday School teacher, VBS director, custodian, deacon and church clerk.

During high school, Steve worked at Richards Brothers grocery store and it was in aisle 3 in 1976 where he met the new checkout girl, Terrye Pridemore, and they soon started dating. Steve and Terrye were married on June 26, 1981. They have been blessed with three sons: John Steven, Joel Kyson and Jordan Thomas.

Steve was involved with many of the boys' activities: chauffeuring to soccer games and band contests, driving the VBS van so all of the boys' friends could attend, finding tables and extension cords for LAN parties, chaperoning band trips, pulling the band trailer and being the voice of the Panther Pride Band halftime shows. Steve was very diligent about taking pictures of each and every event from games, to contests, to each celebration, to everyday life.

Steve has joined his family members in Heaven including his grandparents, Earl and Amy Carter, Earnest and Lola Owens and his father-in-law, Lewis Pridemore.

Celebrating his life but missing him greatly: his wife: Terrye Pridemore Carter; his sons and daughter-in-law: John & Ashley Carter, Joel Carter, Jordan Carter; his grandson: Logan John Carter; his parents: Basil and Jane Carter and Marjorie Carter; his mother-in-law: Brenda Pridemore; his aunt: Gloriabell Chasteen; his siblings: Dan Carter, Tim Carter, Lisa Messer, Terry Hutsell; his in-laws: Dan & Tammy Pridemore, Ken & Gloria Pridemore, Todd and Carolyn Pridemore; his aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews and many other friends. Certain friends over the years have made this journey very special: Kevin Clinton, Mark Hovatter, Brent Barnett, Teresa Calhoun, the faculty and staff at Mountain Grove Schools and our church family at Oak Grove Free Will Baptist.
