Steven Allen Kirby, son of Allen and Gloria (Clause) Kirby, was born November 16, 1955, in Kingsport, Tennessee, and departed this life May 22, 2023, at Cox Medical Center South in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of 67 years, 6 months, and 6 days.
He was united in marriage to Joan Urbanski and to this union two children were born.
Joan preceded him in death in 2006. He was also preceded in death by his parents, brother, Michael Kirby, and grandson, Benjamin Cruse.
Steven is survived by a daughter, Calista Cruse (Mark), of Mountain Grove, Missouri; son, Zackary Kirby of Maryland; grandchildren, Sophia Gresham, Anna Gresham, Melody Cruse, Aiden Kirby, and Chase Kirby; sisters, Anne MacSorley (Joseph) of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, Marsha Novak (Melvin) of Severna Park, Maryland, and Gail Swecker (Mark) of Severn, Maryland; lifelong partner, Patricia Gresham; nieces, nephews, cousins, much extended family, and friends.
He was born in Tennessee and raised in Glen Burnie, Maryland, where he graduated from Glen Burnie High School in the Class of 1973. After graduating, Steve moved to Miami, Florida, with friends, to work and enjoy the beautiful state. After a few years, Steve returned to his hometown in Maryland and married Joan. He was a pipefitter and worked on many government construction projects in Washington, D.C., and surrounding states. After Joan died, he moved his family to Southwest Missouri to be near friends. He worked for Anthony Heating and Air in Mountain Grove, retiring in 2018. After moving here, he met Patricia Gresham, and they enjoyed 14 wonderful years together.
When he was younger, he was a very active and proud member of the Boy Scouts. He was also a member of Norwood Masonic Lodge #622 A.F & A.M. where he served as secretary. Steve’s greatest love was being outdoors. He especially enjoyed hunting, hiking, and camping.
Steven was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and lifelong partner. We all have many special memories of being together that we will always cherish. He will be greatly missed.
