Slayton Roth McGowan, who you all know as the redheaded, freckled face boy, came into this world on August 31, 1995. His smile warmed everyones hearts. Slayton was never afraid of hard work and many here today have been blessed by him lending a helping hand. From milking cows and hauling cattle, to bailing hay and fixing fence, Slayton did it all with that side-ways smile and a willing hand.
Slayton enjoyed trucks (Dodge Cummins), rolling black smoke, and pretty girls. His love for anything farming, which he learned at a young age from his father and grandfather, brought him the most happiness. When Slayton wasnt working, he enjoyed fish fries with family and friends.
Slayton just recently started his career following a McGowan tradition of working on the Mississippi River on the river barges. He was excited to learn the ropes, and planned to pursue engineering like his uncles. He felt it was the best of both worlds, one month being a farmer, one month being an engineer.
Slayton asked Jesus into his heart as a teenager while attending summer camp at Camp Joy.
He left this world on November 8, 2016, too early at age 21. He is survived by his parents, Darrin and Jeannie McGowan of Mountain Grove, Missouri, and Tabby Weldon of Fairland, Oklahoma, his sister, Shannon, and her husband, JD Shannon, and their son, Weston, his sister, Haley McGowan, and his brother, Dylan Alcorn, all of Mountain Grove, Missouri, and his brother, Landon Weldon of Fairland, Oklahoma. Many loving grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family, and so many friends who will miss him greatly.
