Shona Marie Mayfield

October 23, 1958 — March 28, 2016

Shona Marie Mayfield, daughter of Paul and Lilly Gaston, was born on October 23, 1958 in Modesto, California. Shona and her family moved to Willow Springs, Missouri, in 1967, and then to Mountain Grove, Missouri, in 1970, at the age of 12. Throughout her school years, Shona loved participating in theater and played iconic roles such as Queen Catherine, wife of Henry VIII. She graduated in May 1976, with her brother, Tommie, and went on to attend college at Southwest Missouri State University where she majored in History and minored in psychology and sociology. Throughout her college years she worked as a secretary for the head of the agriculture department in order to pay for her tuition. While she was attending college she also developed a close and lifelong friendship with her roommate, Pam Adams.
After graduating college Shona travelled to Germany where she served as the head of a child daycare and taught classes at night to help soldiers serving there to earn their G.E.D. Due to her deep love of history and the arts, Shona took advantage of touring the European and German cities as often as she could and surrounded herself with the local culture. After several years, Shona returned from Germany and began working as a social worker for the Division of Aging in Mountain Grove.
Throughout her life, Shona always had a deep love of animals. Her cat, Sly, who she adopted while in Germany, was part of her life for over 15 years. For the past 20 years she devoted herself to her many dogs and loved spending time with them. Her family also remembers her love of music, especially music by The Beatles, Donnie Osmond, and Rod Stewart.
Shona met the love of her life, Harland Mayfield, in 1988 and they married on October 27, 1990. Shona and Harland spent 20 happy years together before renewing their vows in 2010. They celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary last October.
Shona went home to be with her Lord and Savior on March 28, 2016. Shona is survived by her loving husband, Harland, as well as her mother and father, Paul and Lilly Gaston, her sister, Joy Johns, her brother and sister-in-law, Tommie and Teresa Gaston, as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, friends, and family.
