Shirley Joanne Macomber

September 11, 1934 — May 11, 2016

Shirley Joanne Macomber, daughter of the late William Egbert and Elsie (Gregor) Stillwell, was born on September 11, 1934, in Douglas County, Missouri, and departed this life on May 11, 2016, at her home in Douglas County. She was 81 years and 8 months of age.

Shirley grew up in Douglas County and graduated from Cabool High School. She was united in marriage to Henry Macomber on August 22, 1953, in Lees Summit, Missouri. Four children were born to this union: Dessie, Mark, Joe, and Lisa.

Shirley was saved and baptized at a young age and was a long time member of the Pleasant Home Free Will Baptist Church. She greatly enjoyed serving the Lord and, earlier in life, taught Sunday school. Shirley was also very involved in the Upn Att 4-H Club. She enjoyed farming and milked cows for 20 years. She also worked as an operator for Southwestern Bell.


Shirley was a kind and compassionate lady with a warm heart. She loved spending time with family and friends. Her greatest joy in life was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Besides her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by three brothers: Donald, Gerald, and Bruce Stillwell; and one son-in-law: Randy Howard.

Shirley is survived by her husband of 62 years: Henry Macomber, of the home; two sons: Mark Macomber and wife, Debbie, of Cabool, Missouri, and Joe Macomber of OFallon, Missouri; two daughters: Dessie Howard of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Lisa Housley and husband, Mike, of Mountain Grove; seven grandchildren: Derek Macomber, Deidre Mings, Jeff Howard, Tommy Howard, Miki Sullivan, Chrissi Sullivan, and Wyatt Cantrell; five great-grandchildren: Brittany Howard, Ashley Howard, Katie Howard, Kole Macomber, and Ella Macomber; one brother: Lyle Stillwell; and a host of other relatives and friends.


Visitation: Friday, May 13th, 2016, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home.

Funeral Services: Saturday, May 14th, 2016, at 11:00 AM at Pleasant Home Church.

Burial: Penner Cemetery
