Shirley Jean Rodgers, (known to many as “Me-Me”), age 60, of Mtn. Grove, Missouri, passed away on June 1, 2012 at home with her family and friends by her side. She was born on April 25, 1952 in Rutledge, Missouri to Gerald and Julia (McAllister) Stillwell.
Shirley grew up in Douglas County and attended the Cabool Schools. She was united in marriage to Charles Gene Rodgers on June 3, 1971 in the Pleasant Home Church in Douglas County. One daughter, Michelle Lynn, was born to this union in 1972. Shirley resided in the Douglas and Wright County areas throughout her life.
Cooking for her family and doing for others is what Shirley enjoyed most, along with “Going West” with her friends, and fishing at Mammoth Springs, Arkansas. The last several years of her life, she enjoyed sewing and embroidering T-shirts, quilts, tea towels, and practically anything she could dream up. At any given time, she would be working on something special for someone.
The last few years of her life, Shirley, was unable to work outside the home. Earlier years were filled with many endeavors, from Country Store owner, Cabool Schools Bus Driver, Oats Bus Driver, Dairy Farmer, Real Estate Broker, to a Title Insurance Agent.
Shirley is survived by her husband, Charles Gene Rodgers, of their home; her daughter: Michelle Lynn Stigall, and her husband, Jeff, of Mtn. Grove; three grandchildren: Brittany Faith (Hayes) Barton and her husband, Brandon, Dakota Stigall and Emma Grace Stigall; one great-granddaughter: Elsie Grace Barton; her parents: Gerald and Julia Stillwell of Mtn. Grove; one brother: Jerry Stillwell and his wife, Brenda of Mtn. Grove; one sister: Tabby Unger and her husband, Matt, of Mtn. Grove; her father and mother-in-law: Ezra and Lois Rodgers; brothers and sisters-in-law: Dale Rodgers and his wife, Rhonda, Benny Rodgers and his wife, Teresa, Vicki Fox and her husband, Denzil, andPatty Fox and her husband, Darren; eleven nieces: Jannine, Kamber, Mindy, Charity, Candace, Lindsey, Courtney, Chelsea, Danielle, Whitney, and Morgan; seven nephews; Scott, Ty, Chris, Brandon, Dylan, Braden, and Trenton; several great-nieces; great-nephews; aunts; uncles; cousins; and friends.
Although our hearts are filled with sadness and we will miss Shirley’s smiling face, we are comforted in the assurance that she is now setting up her sewing room in her “Mansion just over the Hilltop” and walking those “Streets that are pure as Gold.”
Furthermore, in her honor we shall strive to live our lives by the words she often spoke: “
“WE SHOULD NOT WAIT FOR A NEED TO HELP OTHERS TO PRESENT ITSELF; BUT DILIGENTLY SEEK FOR AN OPPORTUNITY.”
