Sheila Jo (Burnett) Crisp, daughter of the late Cevard L. Burnett, and Willie C. and Peggy R. (Wilson) Adamson, was born on November 9, 1962, in Cabool, Missouri, located in Texas County. She left this world to be with her Lord and Savior on September 16, 2016, at the age of 53 years, 10 months, and 7 days. At the time of her passing, Sheila had been living at her residence north of Mountain Grove, Missouri, had been temporarily undergoing physical rehab treatment at Autumn Oaks Care Center, and was making plans for a move to town in order to be closer to family as she dealt with ongoing health issues.
Sheila grew up in Mountain Grove and attended school in the Mountain Grove School District. She graduated from Mountain Grove High School in 1981, and shortly after, attended Hillsdale Bible College for two years. Sheila was united in marriage to Lowell Wayne Crisp on May 20, 1989, and the couple had resided on their small acreage north of town.
Sheila Crisp spent much of her time sharing her amazing gift of vocal music in the Mountain Grove and surrounding areas. A unique personality, Sheila was an entertaining and vibrant participant in high school drama and musical presentations and assemblies. Sheila never knew a stranger, lighting up a room and making everyone comfortable with her bright smile and never-ending silliness. Her stories could go on forever, and she seemed to remember every event in vivid color. She loved going into detail and had a flair for theatrics.
Throughout her life, Sheila was well known for her beautiful, powerful, and moving voice, and was often asked to sing at area churches and events. Until health concerns interfered, Sheila had been actively involved with the weekly community gathering group Manes Music Makers. Becoming a Christian at a young age, Sheila was enthusiastic in sharing her faith with others. She had attended Oak Grove Free Will Baptist Church for the last several years, again enjoying ministering in song while her health allowed.
In addition to her passion for faith and music, Sheila Crisps other love had been her career in nursing. Starting out working at the local nursing home in high school, Sheila continued working in geriatric care until 2006 when failing health forced her to retire. Sheila Crisp had earned Certified Nurses Aide certification, Medical Technician certification, and eventually became a Licensed Practical Nurse with IV certification, completing her education at South Central Area Vo-Tech in West Plains, Missouri, and receiving the SCAVTS Faculty Award in recognition of her dedication and commitment to her education and calling to provide kind and compassionate nursing care to others.
One of Sheilas biggest joys was serving her youngest sister, a traumatic brain injury survivor, as a personal caregiver as long as her health had allowed. Many blessings were evident in time spent with family, her church congregation, former classmates, and dear friends who were members of the Manes, Mountain Grove, and Lebanon communities. All who knew and loved Sheila Jo Crisp will cherish their memories of laughing and having a good time, singing and playing music, and praising God with her. What a celebration must be taking place in heaven as she has now joined the Heavenly Chorus.
Sheila was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Crisp; birth father, Cevard Burnett; grandmothers, Ada Gill, Lillian Burnett, and Olive Adamson; and grandfathers, Fletcher Burnett, Johnny Wilson, and Robert Adamson.
She is survived by her parents, Willie Adamson and wife, Peggy; brother, Terry Burnett; sister, Wendy (Burnett) Thompson and her husband, Michael; sister, Roberta Elliott; nieces, Mikaela (Thompson) Schriver and her husband, Alex; niece, Alyssa Thompson; step-daughter, Cheri Kyle and her husband, Jim; step-grandchildren, Tony Kyle, and Cheli Kyle and family; and a number of special aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who dearly loved Sheila and will miss her greatly.
