Ruth B. Short

Ruth Burnett Short, daughter of the late Goldman and Cleo (Moser) Long, was born on October 13, 1929 in Mtn. Grove, Missouri and departed this life on August 3, 2009 in the Autumn Oaks Caring Center in Mtn. Grove, Missouri, following a long illness. She was 79 years, 9 months, and 21 days of age.
Ruth grew up in the Mtn. Grove area and attended school at Mtn. Valley and Mtn. Grove. She was united in marriage to Amos Short on August 16, 1949. Four children were born to this union. They made their home in the Mtn. Grove area all their lives. Mr. Short passed away on May 17, 1962.
Ruth was employed as a waitress for many years in the Mtn. Grove Community. She was saved and baptized at an early age and was a faithful member of the Cornerstone Freewill Baptist Church. She enjoyed attending services as long as her health permitted.
Ruth was a true homemaker who loved taking care of her family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and visiting with her many friends and neighbors. She will be truly missed by those who knew and loved her.
Besides her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law: Jerry Claxton; a brother: Marshall Long; and by two sisters: Thelma Dobies and LuEllen Long.
She is survived by two sons: Terry Short and his wife, Diana, and Bob Short and his wife, Shirley; all of Mtn. Grove; two daughters: Charlene Claxton of Mtn. Grove; and Patty Long and her husband, John, of Ozark, Missouri; one brother: Bruce Long and his wife, Sharon, of Mtn. Grove; two sisters: Exa Retherford of Lewisville, Texas; and Lois Adamson and her husband, Kenneth of Mansfield, Missouri; a sister-in-law: Pearl Long of Mtn. Grove; seven grandchildren: Misty Goforth and her husband, Donnie; Michael Claxton; Sarah Stillwell and her husband, Ronald; Scott Short; Amy York and her husband, Andrew; Timothy Short; and Mark Short and his wife, Fay; ten great-grandchildren: Dakota Goforth, Dylan Claxton, Heather Goforth, John York, Brannon Short, Trystan Short, Macenzie Short, Cloe Short,Christopher Caswell and Isaiah Hutchison; several nieces; nephews; and a host of other relatives, neighbors and friends.


Funeral Service:
Thursday, August 6, 10:00 AM in the Craig-Hurtt Chapel.
Visitation:
Wednesday, August 5, 6:00 - 8:00 PM in the funeral home.
Burial:
Mtn. Valley Cemetery
