Ruby Robertson, daughter of the late Menyard and Myrtle (Carlton) Burch, was born on October 1, 1917 in Dawson, Missouri, north of Mtn. Grove and departed this life on Wednesday, September 17, 2008 in the Autumn Oaks Caring Center in Mtn. Grove following a long illness. She was 90 years, 11 months, and 17 days of age.
Ruby grew up and attended school in the Dawson area and from the age of ten she was raised by her sister, Ada. She was united in marriage to Chester C. Robertson on March 5, 1934 in Hartville, Missouri. This union was blessed with five children. They raised their family on a farm in the Manes Community. Mr. Robertson passed away on January 5, 1962.
Ruby enjoyed crocheting, cooking for her family and friends, and fishing. Later in life, she became a resident of McEldo in Mtn. Grove where she was known as the person to call if other tenants around her had something that needed to be fixed. She was a member of the First Freewill Baptist Church in Mtn. Grove and enjoyed attending services whenever possible.
She was a wonderful and very special mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and friend. She loved spending time with her family and visiting with those around her.
Besides her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers: Toby and George Burch; two sisters: Murel Tweryon and Ada Perkins; two sons: Bill and Jack Robertson; and a grandson, Lyle.
She is survived by two sons: Joe Robertson and his wife, Judy, and Ronnie Robertson and his companion, Delores Norman, all of Mtn. Grove; one daughter: Genell Rhodes and her husband, Murel, of Mtn. Grove; two daughters-in-law: Kay Robertson and Karen Raney, both of Mtn. Grove; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; two special nephews that she considered her brothers: Don and Gene Perkins; and a host of other relatives and friends who will sadly miss her.
Funeral services for Ruby Robertson were held Saturday, September 20, 2008, 10:00 AM in the Craig-Hurtt Chapel with Rev. Roger Flint and Rev. Bruce Moore officiating. The Freewill Baptist Church Quartet sang “How Great Thou Art,” and “Without Jesus You Make Heaven.” Pallbearers were Bradley Rhodes, Jerry Robertson, Jimmy Robertson, Jerrell Robertson, David Robertson, and Larry Robertson. Honorary pallbearers were Dale Robertson, Lanny Robertson, and Berry Robertson. Burial was in the Coon Creek Cemetery under the direction of the Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home, Mtn. Grove, Missouri.
