Roy Lee Lawson, son of the late Joe and Oma (Barr) Lawson, was born on February 21, 1929 in Rayborn, Missouri, and passed away on March 23, 2007 in the Kabul Nursing Home in Cabool, Missouri, following a long illness. He was 78 years, 1 month, and 2 days of age.
Roy grew up and attended school north of Mtn. Grove in the Dawson and Rayborn Communities. He was united in marriage to Mary Jane Noble on September 11, 1953 in Kansas. Six children were born to this union. They had made their home in the Mtn. Grove, Missouri area for several years. Mrs. Lawson passed away on November 21, 1998.
Roy served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Throughout his life, he enjoyed telling stories of growing up around Dawson and Rayborn and also stories from serving in the military. He loved making up songs and all kinds of stories. He worked in the Mtn. Grove community for several years in his business of television and electronic repair as a technician.
Besides his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by one son: Dennis Lawson in 1982.
Roy is survived by four sons: Lee Lawson of St. Paul, Missouri, Alan Lawson of Boerne, Texas, Mike Lawson of Galesville, Wisconsin and Ken Lawson; one daughter: Mary Ellen Fradin of Rochester, New York; two brothers: Frank Lawson and Bill Lawson of Rayborn, Missouri; two sisters: Edith Wills of Sparta, Missouri, and Ruth Dunlap of Norwood, Missouri; nine grandchildren; and other relatives and friends who will miss him.
Graveside services for Roy Lawson were held Monday, March 26, 2:00 PM in the Friendship Cemetery with Rev. Jerry Ratterree, and Rev. Bythel Friend officiating. Joella Garland read a commentary. Sarah Lawson played “Danny Boy” on the viola. Two of Roy’s songs were played “The Auction,” and “The Drought.” Burial was in the Friendship Cemetery under the direction of the Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home, Mtn. Grove, Missouri.
