Roy Eldon Ellis

April 26, 1920 — January 21, 2015

Roy Eldon Ellis, son of the late Earl and Bessie (Hutsell) Ellis, was born on April 26, 1920 in Dawson, Missouri and departed this life on January 21, 2015 at his home in Bendavis, Missouri. He was 94 years, 8 months, and 26 days of age.

Roy was raised in the Dawson community. He attended Hopkins and Manes Elementary School and graduated from Mountain Grove High School in 1937. Roy went to serve his country in 1942, joining the Army for 4 years.

Roy was united in marriage to Emma Jean Bates on December 28, 1947 in Hot Springs, Arkansas. They raised three children together: Jesse, Lee, and Patsy.

Roy spent his whole life as a dairy and beef farmer. His hobbies were working on the farm, clearing land with his dozer, reading books, the newspaper, his Bible, and watching the news.

Roy served on the board of AMPI, MidAmerica Dairy, and the Dawson School Board.

Besides his parents, Roy was preceded in death by one brother: Ross Ellis; two sisters-in-law: Dixie Ellis and Marilyn Ellis; and one granddaughter: Kristy Ellis.

Roy is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Emma Jean Ellis of the home; two sons: Jesse Ellis and his wife, Linda, of Hollister, Missouri, and Lee Ellis and his wife, Ruth Ann, of Springfield, Missouri; one daughter: Patsy Smyer and her husband, Roland, of Bendavis, Missouri; one brother: Jim Ellis of Mountain Grove, Missouri; one sister-in-law: Shirley Ellis of Mountain Grove, Missouri; eight grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a host of other family and friends.


Visitation: Sunday, January 25, 2015 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM in the Craig-Hurtt Chapel.

Funeral Service: Monday, January 26, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Friendship Baptist Church, Dawson Missouri.

Burial: Friendship Cemetery, Dawson, Missouri.

Memorial Contributions: Children's Miracle Network in c/o the funeral home.
