Roland Dexter Cawthron, son of the late Deck and Hattie (Sanders) Cawthron, was born on October 27, 1934 in Douglas County, Missouri, and passed away on Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at his residence in Mtn. Grove, Missouri, at 77 years of age.
Roland grew up in Mtn. Grove and attended Mtn. Grove High School and graduated in 1953. Following graduation he served his country in the United States Army from December of 1956 to December of 1959, where he was a paratrooper, stationed in Germany. Following his discharge, he and his wife traveled and were blessed with two children who were both born in Washington State. Soon after, he moved his family back to the Mtn. Grove area.
He lived on Long Street in Mtn. Grove for many years, where he grew a large garden each year. He enjoyed sharing and selling his vegetables to his friends and neighbors. He moved from Mtn. Grove to Florida, where he spent five years and then decided to come back to Mtn. Grove, where he made his home on Busch Street.
Roland was also a dairy farmer for many years. He enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, fishing, and gardening. He also liked to train dogs and he enjoyed being around all kinds of animals.
Roland was a kind and caring father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, neighbor and friend. He enjoyed visiting with his family and friends and will be truly missed by those who knew and loved him.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by seven siblings: Elmer Cawthron, Everett Cawthron, Gertrude Hale, Lucy Cawthron, Zella Brayton, Lorine Rhodes and Roy Hale.
Roland is survived by one son: Ron Cawthron of Mtn. Grove; one daughter: Robin Todd of Mtn. Grove; two grandchildren: Cole Cawthron and his wife, Lacie, of Little Rock, Arkansas; and Sabrina Campbell and her husband, Brad, of Mtn. Grove; two great-grandsons: Zachary and Caleb Campbell; several nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends.
