Rod C. Raney

Rod Cecil Raney, son of the late Rod Con and Anna (Gray) Raney, was born on January 15, 1918 in Norwood, Missouri, and departed this life on February 15, 2007 at his residence in Mansfield, Missouri, following a short illness. He was 89 years and 1 month of age.
Rod grew up and attended school in the Norwood area. He served his country in the United States Air Force during World War II. Following his discharge, he was united in marriage to Ruth Bennett on October 31, 1946. Four children were born to this union. Rod was employed by Toblin-Hamilton Shoe Factory in Mansfield for over thirty years.
He enjoyed being outdoors, especially when breaking and training horses and going on trail rides.
He was a caring father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He enjoyed spending time with his family and visiting with his friends.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter: Connie Raney; three brothers: Bert Raney, Bob Raney, and Chester Raney; and by two sisters, Doris Kenneth, and Vialta Whitewater.
Survivors include his wife: Ruth Raney of Mansfield, Missouri; three daughters: Helen Murray and her husband, Charles of Mansfield, Missouri, Betty Hodge and her husband Eddie of the State of South Carolina, and Carolyn Beavers and her husband, Clyde of Macomb, Missouri; one brother: Van Raney and his wife, Hazel of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; three sisters, Bertha Jackson of Detroit, Michigan, Lorene Bennett and her husband, Roy of Macomb, Missouri, and Oleva Wiseman of Louisville, Kentucky; a sister-in-law: Jean Raney of Mansfield, Missouri; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several nieces; nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends who will miss him very much.
Funeral services for Rod Raney were held Monday, February 19, 10:00 AM in the Craig-Hurtt Chapel with Rev. R.E. Helsley officiating. Song selections were “Amazing Grace,” and “I’ll Fly Away.” Pallbearers were Wayne Raney, Bobby Bennett, Roy Eugene Bennett, Frank Raney, John Wayne Raney, and Rick Raney. Cliff Bennett served as honorary pallbearer. Full military honors were given at the cemetery by the American Legion Post 30 with Jared Moore serving as bugler. Burial was in the Thomas Cemetery under the direction of the Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home, Mtn. Grove, MO.
