Roberta B. “Mimi” McGinnis, daughter of the late Fred and Florence (Fox) Scott, was born on August 9, 1927 in Texas County, Missouri, and went into the welcoming arms of her loving Savior on March 17, 2011 while a resident of Magnolia Square Care Center in Springfield, Missouri, at 83 years of age. She is complete and smiling just as we all remember her.
Roberta grew up and attended school in Texas County, Missouri. She was united in marriage to Lee Newton McGinnis on October 27, 1951 in Springfield, Missouri. Two sons were born to this union. They made their home in the Mtn. Grove area for many years. Mr. McGinnis passed away on October 13, 2000.
Roberta was a devoted wife, loving mother, a silly “Mimi”, a wonderful cook for her family and the Mtn. Grove School System, and a retired secretary and bookkeeper for Shannon Heating and Cooling.
Roberta loved to serve others. She loved to smile and joke, and she maintained this trademark sense of humor all the way to the end for her family and the nursing home staff. She touched the lives of those around her with her smile and ease of life.
She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Mtn. Grove and enjoyed attending services as long as her health permitted.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband: Lee McGinnis.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law: Bob and Susan McGinnis of Rogersville, Missouri, and Steve and Rhonda McGinnis of Springfield, Missouri; one brother: George Scott and his wife, Janelle, of North Carolina; two sisters: Margaret Bressler of Mtn. Grove, and Florence Hannah Richardson of Houston, Missouri; two sisters-in-law: Tressie Sellars of Norwood, Missouri and Bonnie Ratterree of Mtn. Grove; five granddaughters: Kallie, Alyse, Mandolyn, Stephanie and Tenslee-Dean; three great-grandchildren: Norah, Reagan, and Caroline; and other relatives and friends who will miss her very much.
“Goodbye and do you know what? We love you.”
