Robert Gerald, son of the late William L. and Ruby (Cox) Gerald, was born on June 24, 1931 in Thomaston, Georgia, and departed this life on Saturday, April 23, 2011 in the St. John’s Regional Health Center in Springfield, Missouri, at 79 years of age.
Robert grew up and attended school in Thomaston and completed two years of college. He served his country in the United States Air Force from 1951 to 1955, during the Korean War. While serving he received the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Bronze Service Star and the Good Conduct Medal.
He was united in marriage to Maryland Hopper on July 6, 1958 in Dewey, Oklahoma. Three daughters were born to this union. They had made their home in the Mtn. Grove area for over forty years.
He was employed by Hutchens Steel in Mansfield, Missouri, for several years where he was best known as “Gator”.
Robert was a member of the Little Zion Baptist Church in Denlow, Missouri. He enjoyed attending services and visiting with his many friends.
He enjoyed fishing and watching college football. His favorite pastime was spending time with his family and friends.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother: William Gerald Jr.; and by one sister: Josephine Caldwell.
He is survived by his loving wife: Maryland Gerald of their home; his daughters: Tracey Todd and her husband, Tom, of Mtn. Grove, Kendal Gerald of Mtn. Grove, and Shenan Breeding and her husband, Michael, of St. Louis, Missouri; one sister: Patricia Johnson and her husband, Bo, of Thomaston, Georgia; eight grandchildren: Alison, Kyle, Logan, Malachi, Lucas, Will, Jack and Emma; two great-grandchildren: Sean and Cheylea; and other relatives and friends who will miss him very much.
