Robert 'Bobby' Thornhill

Robert “Bobby” Leon Thornhill, son of Thomas and Katherine “Kate” (Peltzer) Thornhill, was born on May 10, 1947 in Wright County, Missouri and departed this life on November 20, 2009 in the St. John’s Regional Health Center in Springfield, Missouri following a farm accident. He was 62 years, 6 months and 10 days of age.
Bobby grew up in the Dawson Community and attended the Morning Sun School. He attended the Mtn. Grove High School and graduated in 1965. Following graduation, he was drafted into the United States Army on August 2, 1967 where he served during the Vietnam War. During his time of service, he was awarded several medals including a Purple Heart and was honorably discharged on May 29, 1969 as an SP4.
Bobby was united in marriage to Diana Christeson on February 7, 1970 in Cabool, Missouri. Two children were born to this union.
He was a dairy and beef farmer on the family farm all his life. He enjoyed tending to his farm duties and being outdoors.
Bobby was a member of the VFW Post 3770 and the American Bowling Association. He enjoyed keeping active playing pool, cards, bowling and riding horses. He was a big fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and professional bull riding.
For the past few years, Bobby faithfully attended the First Baptist Church in Mtn. Grove where he enjoyed visiting with his many friends.
Bobby was a loving and caring son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He will be truly missed by those who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his father: Thomas Thornhill; three brothers: Lonnie, Junior, and Larry Thornhill; a sister: Sherry Collins; infant twin sisters: Vernia Jean and Bernia Dean; a special niece: Tracy Dawn Hicks; and by his father-in-law: Hubert Christeson.
He is survived by his loving wife: Diana Thornhill of their home; his son and daughter-in-law: Kevin and Christy Thornhill of Mtn. Grove; his daughter: Kimberly Thornhill of Mtn. Grove; two grandchildren: Nicholas and Sabrina Thornhill; his mother: Katherine “Kate” Thornhill of Mtn. Grove; five sisters and their spouses: Cora Lee and Eugene Brown of Sacremento, California, Gail and Delmar Hicks of Mtn. Grove, Karen and Charlie Robertson of Nashville, Tennessee, Kay Stigall of Mtn. Grove, and Debbie and Roger Nelson of Mtn. Grove; his mother-in-law: Lucille Christeson; many nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 10:00 AM at the First Baptist Church, Mountain Grove.

Tuesday, November 24, 2009 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at the First Baptist Church.
