Robert “Bobby” Lee Longwell, son of the late William Cleveland and Julia (Carder) Longwell, was born on July 31, 1932 in Houston, Missouri, and departed this life on February 7, 2012 at his residence in Mtn. Grove, Missouri, surrounded by his family. He was 79 years of age.
Bobby grew up in the Rayborn Community in Texas County, Missouri. At the age of fifteen, he moved to Olney, Illinois where he worked in the timber business with his brother-in-law, Ervin Biggers.
He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant on November 17, 1954.
He was united in marriage to Nancy Vollmer on July 2, 1955 in Rushville, Illinois. Three children were born to this union. Their first daughter was born in 1956. In a short while, they moved to Salem, Indiana where Bobby worked in the timber business with his brothers, Tom and Elvis Longwell. While the family lived in Indiana, two more children were born. A few short years after, they moved back to Rushville, Illinois. Bobby worked in the meat packaging business at Mickleberry’s and as a meat cutter for the Oscar Meyer Company.
Following his retirement, he and Nancy moved to Mtn. Grove, Missouri where he did lawn care for several years.
Bobby was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend. He will be truly missed by those who knew and loved him.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers: Raymond, Elvis, Tom and Richard Longwell; and by two sisters: Rhoda Biggers and Martha Splechter.
He is survived by his loving wife: Nancy Longwell of their home; his children: Carol (Longwell) Miller and her husband, Tom, of Mtn. Grove, Missouri,, Sandra (Longwell) Dickason and her husband, Bobby, of Monmounth, Illinois, and Edward L. Longwell of Mtn. Grove, Missouri; five grandchildren: Jesse Miller, Hayley (Miller) Vail, Robert Longwell, Nathan Longwell , all of Mtn. Grove, Missouri and Beth (Dupoy) Glisson and her husband, Gibbs; of New Berlin, Illinois; four great-grandchildren: Faith Vail, Taylor Glisson, Dalton Glisson, and Isabelle Glisson; two sisters: Emajean Raney and Lucy Harms, both of Mtn. Grove, Missouri; many nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends.
