Richard Harold Courtney, son of the late Les and Mildred (Barton) Courtney, was born May 29, 1938, in Raymondville, MO and passed away Saturday, January 28, 2012, in Springfield, MO, following a short illness. He was 73 years of age.
Richard was 2 years old when his mother died. He was raised by his grandparents, Luther and Amanda (Stewart) Courtney. On December 26, 1958, Richard and Glenda Faye (Hilt) Courtney were married. They moved to St. Louis and were blessed with four children. Richard worked in construction on several major projects in the St. Louis area. He helped pour the foundation for the St. Louis Gateway Arch, worked on the Meramec River Bridge and Barnes Hospital.
In 1969, Richard and Faye moved their family to a farm located north of Mtn. Grove. He continued working in the construction field, primarily concrete work. Richard poured the foundation and basement at the First Baptist Church and other residential/commercial projects. Shortly after moving to Mtn. Grove, Richard and Faye purchased, renovated and operated the Cameo Theater while he continued his construction business.
Throughout his life Richard enjoyed raising, training and trading horses. His farming role included dairy and raising beef cattle. He also enjoyed watching his grandchildren grow up and play sports from T-ball to college athletic events.
