Reverend Dr. Arthur Burton Miller

The Reverend Dr. Arthur Burton Miller, son of Howard Wilson and Amy Angeline (Edson) Miller, was born on January 22, 1922 in Des Moines, Iowa and passed away on January 15, 2009 in the Mia Casita Care Center in Lubbock, Texas. He was almost 87 years of age.
He graduated from high school in Marble Rock, Iowa and then served in the United States Coast Guard during World War II. He received both a B.A. and B. Ed. From Whitworth College in Spokane, Washington and a M.A. and Ph. D. in Rhetoric and Public Address from the University of Oregon in Eugene, Oregon. He taught high school and college level for twenty-five years. He authored two college text books and published numerous articles in leading professional journals. The Apostle Paul and Aristotle were two of the main persons who influenced his thinking and writing. He loved working with young people to help them reach their goals in life.
While teaching in Spokane, he served as a lay minister at the Congregational Church in Loon Lake, Washington. He later was pastor of the United Church of Christ in Peoria Heights, Illinois. He took Holy Orders and was ordained a Priest in the Episcopal Church Trinity Cathedral, San Jose, California in 1989. He served as Interim Priest in Branson, Missouri and Lovington, New Mexico.
Arthur married Lucy Smith on September 11, 1942. They have two sons: Frederick Alan Miller of Lansing, New York and David Paul Miller of Woodbridge, Pennsylvania; a granddaughter: Amy Miller Larkin of Freeville, New York; a grandson: Daniel L. Miller of Moravia, New York; five great-grandchildren: Matthew, Christian, Lillian, Heather and Justin; two sisters: Marjorie Witty of Warren, Indiana and Lorraine Bowman of Springfield, Missouri; a brother: Kenneth H, Miller of Anchorage, Alaska.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother: Clark A. Miller.
