Rev. William Floyd O’Guin, son of the late Walter Harold and Neoma Estline (Dill) O’Guin, was born on November 11, 1941 in Lilbourn, Missouri and passed away suddenly on September 1, 2008 at his residence south of Norwood, Missouri. He was 66 years, 9 months and 21 days of age.
Floyd grew up in the bootheel area and graduated from high school in Portageville, Missouri. He was united in marriage to Judy Brown on October 6, 1961. Four children were born to this union. They raised their children and made their home south of Norwood for over thirty years.
He was employed at Hager Hinge in St. Louis, Missouri for seventeen years and had worked for Hutchen’s Industries in Mansfield, Missouri for over twenty-five years.
Floyd was an avid outdoorsman, especially when hunting and fishing. He was an avid Panthers Football fan and a St. Louis Cardinal fan. He also enjoyed going to Murphy’s Barber Shop to visit with his many friends.
Floyd was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, neighbor and friend. He truly enjoyed the time he spent with his family and grandchildren. He will be missed by his loving family and those who knew him.
Floyd was a minister for nearly thirty years. He enjoyed attending church services and singings. At the time of his death he was pastoring the Pleasant Hill Community Church (Spotted Hog) near Norwood, Missouri. He had a true love for those around him and he never met a stranger.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister: Carrie Ann Newsom. He is survived by his loving wife of forty-six years: Judy O’Guin, of their home; one son: Paul O’Guin of Norwood, Missouri; three daughters: Paula Allsman and her husband, Dwayne, of Norwood, Missouri, Patricia “Lucky” Meriwether and her husband, Robert, and Rose Woods and fiancé, Ruben Gonzales, all of Mtn. Grove; one brother: Allen O’Guin of Collinsville, Illinois; four sisters: Linda Manning, Doris Simpson and Joy Bartlett, all of St. Louis, Missouri and Sue Newsom of Hayti, Missouri; ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives, friends, church family and neighbors.
Funeral services for Floyd O’Guin were held Thursday, September 4, 11:00 AM in the Craig-Hurtt Chapel with Rev. Donald Potter and Rev. John Lutz officiating. Ray Bradley, accompanied by Teresa Bradley sang “In The Garden,” “Wind Beneath My Winds,” and “How Great Thou Art.” Grandsons, Kaleb O’Guin and Trenton O’Guin read two poems. Pallbearers were William Brown, Jim Brown, Chris Curtis, Kaleb O’Guin, Matthew O’Guin and Kurtis O’Guin. Honorary pallbearers were Trenton O’Guin and Ruben Gonzales. Burial was in the Oak Forest Cemetery under the direction of the Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home, Mtn. Grove, Missouri.
