Reverend Ernie Clarel Todd, son of the late Ernie and Anna (Duke) Todd, was born July 10, 1927, in Green Mountain, Missouri, and departed this life February 24, 2018, at Texas County Memorial Hospital in Houston, Missouri. He was 90 years, 7 months, and 14 days of age.
Clarel was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He married Joyce Virlee Sullivant on November 27th, 1947. They celebrated 64 wonderful years of marriage before the passing of Joyce. After high school, Clarel taught at Evening Shade School. He served in the U.S. Navy during the latter years of World War II. Ordained as a minister on the first Sunday of October, 1949, Clarel preached and served over fifty-five years as pastor to many churches. Clarel and Joyce enjoyed the fellowship of Green Mountain Baptist Church, Morning Sun Baptist Church, East Lynne Baptist Church, Prairie Lee Baptist Church, Friendship Baptist Church, Lynchburg Baptist Church and Antioch Baptist Church. Many dear friends and happy memories were made during this time. Clarel also enjoyed his work as a carpenter, working for many different construction companies until retiring in 1992. Clarel clearly modeled for his family a life based on a strong faith in God, Christian principles and a generous love to help and serve others.
Besides his parents, Clarel was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce (Sullivant) Todd, one brother, Don Todd, one sister, Berniece Bogart, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Junior and Julia Sullivant, and his brother-in-law, Lyle Allen.
He is survived by one son, David Todd and his wife, Carolyn, of Mountain Grove, Missouri, three daughters, Debra Slaughter and her husband, John, of Liberty, Missouri, Doretta Willis and her husband, Harry, and Delesa Dowden and her husband, Gene, all of Mountain Grove, Missouri, siblings, Tom Todd and his wife, Wilda, and Carlene Fry all of Mountain Grove, Missouri, one brother-in-law, Bob Sullivant and his wife, Phyllis, of Raytown, Missouri, three sisters-in-law, Mayvis Allen of California, Elizabeth Walker and her husband, Bill of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, and Sharon Sullivant of Mountain Grove, Missouri, his grandchildren, Adam Todd and his wife, Julia, Tabitha Shaver and her husband, Jared, Heather Broome and her husband, James, Emily Hoeft and her husband, Peter, Rachel Mills and her husband, Cody, Jonathan Slaughter and his wife, Amie, Matthew Slaughter and his wife, Ashley, Sarah Dierking and her husband, Bryant, J.D. House and his wife, Allison, Edward House and his wife, Jenna, Nathan Dowden, Caleb Dowden, Lisa Dowden, and Cassondra Dowden, great-grandchildren, Jeremiah, Morgan, Caitlin, Abigail, Jarica, Jovia, Jayla, Juneva, Leah, Lucas, Logan, Kaylee, Karter, Kennedy, Kamryn, Liam, Evelyn Joyce, Josie, Isla, Stella, Jacob, Jude Leighton, Jasper and one on the way, and other relatives and friends that will miss him dearly.
