Ray Newberry

August 16, 1947 — September 24, 2018

Charles Ray Newberry, 71, of Mountain Grove, Missouri, passed away in his home, Monday, September 24, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. Ray was born the fourth of nine children on August 16, 1947, to Henry and Lois Newberry. He grew up and attended school in the Mountain Grove area.

Ray was united in marriage to Carolyn Sellars on June 12, 1965, in the home of her parents in Douglas County, where she lived. For the first four years of their marriage, they lived where ever Ray’s foreman’s job, clearing the right of way for the phone company, would take them in Kansas, Oklahoma, and Missouri. They moved back to Mountain Grove in 1970, and have remained there ever since.

Ray worked and mastered many different jobs until he went to work for Max Penner and Wayne Gott with the Town and Country/Country Mart Super Market chain. He started as a maintenance engineer and later was promoted to Director of Engineering and Maintenance. Ray took great pride in his job and always endeavored to excel at every challenge he encountered.

Ray loved the outdoors; hunting and fishing were pastimes he never had time enough to fully enjoy. He was a quail and deer hunter and an avid fisherman, whenever he could find time to get away.

Besides his parents, Ray was preceded in death by one sister, Kathy Proctor, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Frank and Vera Sellars, and one niece, Angie Mallow.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Newberry, of the home, one son, Darrell Newberry and his wife, Dawn, of Mountain Grove, three grandsons, Garrett Newberry, Hayden Newberry, and Daniel Talbert and his wife, Ashley, and one great-grandchild, Addison Faye Talbert, four brothers, Don Newberry and his wife, Joann, of Vanzant, Missouri, Bob Newberry and his wife, Sherri, of Mountain Grove, Jesse Newberry and his wife, Linda, of Lebanon, Missouri, and Wayne Newberry and his wife, Laurie, of Tipton, Missouri, three sisters, Diane Creiger and her husband, Mike, of Springfield, Missouri, Connie Klund and her husband, Bill, of Jamestown, Missouri, and Dana Robertson of Ozark, Missouri, three sisters-in-law, Jeanie Edwards, wife of the late Harold Edwards, of Iowa, Shirley Creed, wife of the late John Creed, of Mountain Grove, and Sue Browning and her husband, Cleon, of Ozark, Missouri, one brother-in-law, Nolan Sellars and his wife, Jo, of Clinton, Missouri, many loving nieces and nephews, two special friends that he loved dearly, Tammy Barnhill and Judy Talbert, other family and friends that will miss him very much.
