Peter Herbert Witt, son of the late James and Vera Mae Witt, was born on August 2, 1927 in Eminence, Missouri, and departed this life on November 13, 2008 in the St. John’s Regional Health Center in Springfield, Missouri, following a short illness. He was 81 years, 3 months and 11, days of age.
Pete grew up and attended school in Willow Springs, Missouri. He served his country in the United States Navy during World War II as a Seaman First Class and was honorably discharged on July 8, 1945.
He was united in marriage to Rosemary Norris on June 21, 1952 in Willow Springs, Missouri. One daughter was born to this union.
Pete was employed as a field mechanic and later an equipment supervisor for the Missouri Department of Transportation and retired after forty-seven years.
He enjoyed being outdoors tending to his vegetable gardens each year and growing his prize tomatoes. He also liked taking care of his farm in Willow Springs. He worked on and collected antique tractors and cars and was well known for his ability to fix Volkswagens.
Pete married Maxine (Melton) Hutchison in 1990 in Mtn. Grove, Missouri. They made their home on East Ninth Street in Mtn. Grove for the past eighteen years.
He was saved and baptized at a young age and became a member of the First Baptist Church in Mtn. Grove. He enjoyed attending services and visiting with his many friends in the community.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife: Rosemary on April 29, 1987; and by one brother and two sisters.
He is survived by his wife: Maxine Witt of their home; his daughter: Susan Witt of Mtn. Grove; one brother: John Witt of the State of Arkansas; his church family and many friends who will miss him very much.

Sunday, November 16, 2008 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the funeral home.
