Pearl Elaine Long, daughter of the late Laurence and Phila (Arbuckle) Decker, was born on June 20, 1939 in Dunn, Missouri and passed away on May 30, 2010 at St. John’s Regional Health Center in Springfield, Missouri after a short illness. She was 70 years, 11 months, and 10 days of age.
Pearl grew up in the Mountain Grove area and graduated from the Mountain Grove High School in 1957. She married Marshall Long on October 13, 1962 in Miami, Oklahoma. Together they raised four children. Early in their marriage, she and Marshall relocated the family many times due to his service in the navy until Marshall’s retirement in 1976. Pearl served in the Navy from 1957 – 1959. She was also a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
Pearl worked for many years as a dispatcher for Worrell Transport. She enjoyed spending time working word games and puzzles, reading, and visiting with her family and many friends. She had been saved and baptized at an early age. At the time of her passing, she was faithfully attending the Southside Baptist Church where she served in many capacities.
Besides her parents, Pearl was preceded in death by her husband, Marshall, on June 29, 1997, and by one brother: Charles Decker.
She is survived by four daughters: Beth Vander Loop and her husband, Steve, of De Pere, Wisconsin; Lauree Long, Michelle Long, and Marsha Jarrett and her husband, Ted, all of Mountain Grove; one brother: Ronald Decker of Mountain Grove; one sister: Mary Ann Joehrs and her husband, Fred, of Stockton, Missouri; seven grandchildren: Eric Wilhite and his wife, Rosemary, Ashley Wilhite, Weslee Long, Nathan Jarrett and his wife, Jesica, Heath Jarrett, Jessica Jarrett, and Levi Jarrett; four great-grandchildren: Macey, Payton, Sierra, and Alany; and many family, friends, and church family who will miss her dearly.
