Opal Laverne Hoover, daughter of the late Charles and Selma (Pleines) Knobeloch, was born on December 3, 1924 in Minier, Illinois and departed this life on August 6, 2010 at Autumn Oaks Caring Center in Mtn. Grove, Missouri. She was 85 years, 8 months, and 3 days of age.
Opal was raised in the Minier, Illinois area and graduated from Minier High. She was united in marriage to Ivan Hoover on January 8, 1946 in Mtn. Grove. Five children were born to this union.
Opal owned and operated a dry cleaning business in Mtn. Grove and later helped with the Headstart program for several years. She loved deer season even though she didn’t hunt. It was a time that the family united and did what they loved to do: hunt and tell stories. She also enjoyed getting to see her siblings and nephews and catching up on their families.
Opal also enjoyed embroidering and crocheting. She loved making quilt tops for all of her children and grandchildren and giving her crocheted towels as gifts. Opal also spent time reading and listening to gospel and traditional country music.
Opal was a faithful member of Almost Home Ministries. She loved her church family and her pastor. She had also been a member of Royal Neighbors of America and VFW Women’s Auxiliary.
Besides her parents, Opal was preceded in death by two brothers: Glenward and Velde Knobeloch; and one sister: Ruth Strohkirch.
She is survived by two sons: Lee Hoover and his wife, Helen, and Roy Hoover, all of Mtn. Grove; three daughters: Bonnie Westbrook and Beverly Earheart and her husband, James, all of Old Hickory, Tennessee, and Laura Bookout and her husband, Matt, of Seymour, Missouri; three brothers: Chester Knobeloch of Minier, Illinois, Jesse Knobeloch of Nokomis, Illinois, and Lawrance Knobeloch of Lisbon, Illinois; one sister: Minnie Atkins of Stanford, Illinois; fourteen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends that will miss her dearly.
