Opal Jean (Fogerson) Hawkins-Fornero was born on April 23, 2026 in Tarkio, Missouri. She passed away on April 17, 2015, after an extended stay in Autumn Oaks Nursing Home, in Mountain Grove, MO.
Opal married Fred Olan Hawkins on June 5, 1942. Later she married Robert J. Fornero, June 11, 1977. Opal worked at Brown Shoe Corp, Mountain Grove. Managed Circle C Motel in Mountain Grove. Owned the City View Cafe Mountain Grove. She worked many years at Tilley's Fountain on the Square in Mountain Grove.
Opal worked hard for the family and loved cooking old fashion scratch home meals. Many friends through the years here in Mountain Grove, remember her down to earth conversations and laughter. She was generous with sage advice and straight forward Ozark logic. Many will miss and remember her. She was an immersed believer and attended First Freewill Baptist Church and later the First Christian Church. When she no longer could attend services she valued the visitations from the preachers and friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother: Lola Fogerson; her father: Waid Fogerson; her brothers: Austin Fogerson, Lonnie Fogerson, and Harold Jr Fogerson; and her sisters: Jessie Loyd and Betty Wray; her first husband Fred Hawkins; her daughter: Geraldine Stofer and son-in-law Bursey Joe Stofer; along with her second husband: Bob Fornero.
She is survived by her son: Howard Waid Hawkins and his wife, Ci (Fagge) Hawkins, of Mountain Grove, Missouri; in addition, sisters: Doris Mason and Barbara Millham; 7 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.
