Opal Irene Chadwell, daughter of the late Claude and Effie (Martin) Sumner, was born on May 30, 1918, in Junius, South Dakota, and departed this life on June 14, 2016, at Glenwood Healthcare in Seymour, Missouri. She was 98 years and 15 days of age.
Opal was a lifetime member of the Norwood First Baptist Church, where she acted as secretary, treasurer, and helped with Vacation Bible School. Opal enjoyed gardening, working in her yard, and was a wonderful cook.
As a child, Opal and her family moved to Norwood, Missouri. While working on a sheep ranch in Idaho, Opal met the love of her life, Paul Chadwell. They were united in marriage on January 14, 1941. One son was born to this union. Together, Paul and Opal made their home back in Norwood, working on their farm together. Opal will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents, Opal was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Chadwell on December 18, 1995; three sisters: Helen Schlesinger, Pauline Turgon, and Maxine Thompson; and one grandson: Blake Chadwell.
She is survived by her son: Bob Chadwell and his wife, Shirley, of Mountain Grove, Missouri, one sister: Evelyn Wright and her husband, James, of Mountain Grove, Missouri; one granddaughter: Brandy Richter and her husband, Todd; one great-grandson: Blake Richter; special nieces: Sue, Cheri, and Judy; and a special nephew: Ron.
Visitation: Thursday, June 16, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home.
Graveside Service: Friday, June 17, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Retherford Cemetery.
Burial: Retherford Cemetery, Norwood, Missouri.
Memorial Contributions: The Gideons or Retherford Cemetery in c/o the funeral home.
