Norman Dean Rust, son of the late Leland Doyle and Ruby (Alexander) Rust, was born on July 30, 1948, north of Cabool, Missouri, on the old Rust place, and departed this life on April 7, 2016, at his home in Mountain Grove, Missouri. He was 67 years, 8 months, and 8 days of age.
He attended Cabool School until his family moved to Paso Robles, California, in the early 1950s. After a couple of years in California, they moved to Ottumwa, Iowa for a short while, before moving back home to Cabool.
In 1966, Norman married Cathy Rhodes and to this union two children were born: Tammie Lynn and John Leland. They lived in Columbia, Missouri, while Norman worked for J & S Farms, raising registered cattle. He would show the cattle at fairs across Missouri, Kansas, and Illinois, where they consistently took home prizes. In 1968, the family moved back to Cabool and Norman began truck driving. For many years he drove for Steel Haulers, making trips all over the United States.
Norman later moved to Mountain Grove and on June 23, 1993, he married Reida Diann Cyrus in New Orleans, Louisiana. They enjoyed almost 23 years together before his health declined. They enjoyed traveling to Cancun, Mexico, golfing, and entertaining friends and family in their comfortable home.
Norman was partners in several business ventures with his lifelong friend, Dennis Hunter, whom he loved like a brother. Together they purchased Wilco Trash Company. After selling the trash company to Waste Management, Norman remained with the company as the manager until 2010 when he retired. Norman served on Mountain Grove City Council and as president pro tem, and was a member of the Masonic Temple. Norman enjoyed pheasant hunting, riding his motorcycles, going to the lake, old cars, traveling, and spending time with his family.
Norman was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend. We will cherish the memories he made with us and be forever grateful of the time we had with him. Norman was a Christian, and most recently attended Emmanuel Church when his health permitted. To call him friend was truly something to be valued. The Bible tells us that to be absent from the body, is to be present with the Lord. We take comfort in those words.
Norman was preceded in death by his father, Doyle; granddaughter: Kodi Rust; his in-laws: Mont and Edith Cyrus; his friend: Dennis Hunter; and the mother of his children: Cathy Rust.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Reida Diann of the home; sons: John Rust of Mountain Grove, Missouri, and Billy Miller, Jr. of Seymour, Missouri; daughters: Tammie Sears of Cabool, Missouri, and Tammy Helms and her husband, David, of Seymour, Missouri; mother: Ruby Russell of Mountain Grove, Missouri; step-mother: Evelyn Rust of Mountain Grove, Missouri; sister: Jenny Eisenhouer and her husband, Bob, of Cabool, Missouri; brother: Mark Rust and his wife, Angela, of Kansas City, Missouri, two brothers-in-law: Gary and his wife, Linda, of Mansfield, Ohio, and Doug and his wife, Karen, of Perrysville, Ohio; seven grandchildren: Kayla Campbell, Brandon Campbell and his wife, Shalea, Logan Rust, Josh Helms, Chris Helms, Cody Helms and his wife, Micayla, and Bailey Helms; eight great-grandchildren: Ava Hicks, Aurora Hicks, Michael Helms, Matthew Helms, Derek Helms, Jake Frasier, Paitlyn Helms, and Addison Helms; and a host of other relatives and friends.
