Nelle Fern Miller

Nelle Fern Miller, daughter of the late Marvin Roy and Cora Alice (Tool) Miller, was born on February 20, 1935 in Mansfield, Missouri, and departed this life on Sunday, October 26, 2008 in the Kabul Nursing Home in Cabool, Missouri, following a long illness. She was 73 years, 8 months, and 6 days of age.
Nelle grew up and attended school in Mansfield and graduated from Mansfield High School in 1953. She attended classes at Baptist College in Hannibal, Missouri and later moved to Kansas City, Missouri. While living in Kansas City, she was employed by Dunn and Bradstreet where she retired in 1988. Following her retirement, she made her home on South Street in Mtn. Grove, Missouri where she had lived for the past twenty years.
Nelle was known as a very crafty person who enjoyed doing all kinds of crafts, needlepoint and crocheting, especially Afghans. She liked reading, watching movies, doing pencil art and painting and bird watching. Several of her artistic pictures are being handed down in her family to her nieces and nephews.
At the beginning of each year, Nelle would work throughout the year to make sure she had presents for all of her nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was thought of as the family “Santa Claus.” She especially loved her family and wanted to share her life with them as often as she could. Even though she didn’t have any children of her own, she made sure that the children around her felt special and loved.
She was a very loving sister, aunt, great-aunt, great-great-aunt, friend and neighbor. She will be truly missed by those who knew and loved her.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers: Jesse Miller, Roy Nelson Miller, and Walter Bernard Miller; two sisters: Margaret Miller and Norma Rose Allen; and one nephew: Robert Allen.
She is survived by one sister: Joyce Leah Gott of Kansas City, Missouri; three nephews and their wives: Russell and Dellora Allen, Rex and Bonnie Allen, and Norman and Sheron Allen, all of Norwood, Missouri; two nieces: Alice (Allen) and Ralph Emerson of Del City, Oklahoma, and Leslie Gott of Kansas City, Missouri; a niece-in-law: Paula (Freeman) Allen of Hartville, Missouri; many great-nieces: great-nephews; and a host of cousins, relatives and friends.


Graveside Services:
Thursday, October 30th at 10:00 AM in the Mansfield Cemetery.
Visitation:
Wednesday, October 29th, 7:00 - 8:00 PM in the funeral home.
Burial:
Mansfield Cemetery in Mansfield, Missouri.
