Morton William Phelps, son of the late Theodore Roosevelt and Juanita (Shaver) Phelps was born on September 2, 1927 in the Pansy community in Douglas County, Missouri, and passed away on March 8, 2017 at Webco Manor in Marshfield, Missouri. He was 89 years 6 months, and 6 days of age.
Morton was raised in the Douglas and Wright county area and attended school in Ava, Missouri. He married Deloris Micham on July 27, 1947 in Mountain Grove, Missouri. Three children were born to this union: Keith, Kirby, and Karla. Deloris passed away on June 6, 1997. Morton married Sandra Hawkins on September 12, 2003.
Morton owned an ambulance service and a Texaco station for many years. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and working in the yard. He loved spending time with his family and friends. Morton was saved as a young man and his faith was very important to him. He attended Willow Springs Free Will Baptist Church early in life and later attended First Free Will Baptist Church in Mountain Grove for many years, as long as his health permitted.
Morton spent the last five years as a resident of Webco Manor under the special care of the staff and Dr. Donald Burkendine. The family would like to send a special thank you to all of the wonderful people at Webco Manor. They have been a true blessing to Morton and his family.
Besides his parents and his first wife, Morton was preceded in death by his daughter, Karla, and one brother, Bill Phelps.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra Phelps, of Marshfield, Missouri, two sons, Keith Phelps and his wife, Teresa, of Marshfield, Missouri, and Kirby Phelps and his wife, Loretta, of Shawnee, Kansas, six grandchildren, Amanda Phelps, Fallon Gorham, Kelby Phelps, Chad Phelps, Jackie Phelps, and Karlie Camacho, nine great-grandchildren, one brother, Gerald Phelps and his wife, Arletta, of Wichita, Kansas, one sister, Norma Johnson of Santa Ana, California, and many other family and friends who will miss him dearly.
Memorial Service: Saturday, March 25, 2017 at 10:00 AM at Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home.
