Michael James Rhodes, son of James Nelson and Linda (Ellis) Rhodes, was born on August 31, 1969 in Houston, Missouri, and passed away on Sunday, December 4, 2011 at his residence in Mtn. Grove, Missouri following complications of a stroke. He was 42 years, 3 months and 4 days of age.
From the age of one year, Michael was raised by his uncle and aunt, Virgle and Phyllis Rhodes, as their son. He grew up and attended school in Mtn. Grove and graduated from Mtn. Grove High School. He served his country in the United States Army and was honorably discharged on November 23, 1990 because of an accident while on active duty. He served almost one year and received the Army Service Ribbon, Expert Badge (M-16 Rifle), and the Expert Badge (Hand Grenade).
Michael helped his uncle Virgle with his Brick Laying business most all his life. He enjoyed being outdoors, especially when he found time for fishing.
He was a good natured person who enjoyed life until his health started failing a couple of years ago following a stroke.
Michael was preceded in death by his father: James Nelson Rhodes; and by his aunt: Phyllis Rhodes.
He is survived by his mother: Linda Curtis of St. James, Missouri; his maternal grandmother: Faye Ellis Painter of Manes, Missouri; an uncle: Virgle Rhodes of Mtn. Grove; two sons: Levi Wheat of Springfield, Missouri and Jordan Clinton of Moberly, Missouri; two half brothers: Randy Rhodes of Lebanon, Missouri and Carlton Curtis of Licking, Missouri; a cousin who was raised as his brother: William Rhodes of Mtn. Grove; one sister: Lisa Seams of St. James, Missouri; a half-sister: Debra Smith of Houston, Missouri; several aunts; uncles; cousins; nieces; nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends who will truly miss him.
