Maxine Smith

February 3, 1925 — October 9, 2015

E. Maxine Smith, daughter of the late Everett and Nettie (Wood) Gregory, was born on February 3, 1925 in Zearing, Iowa, and departed this life on October 9, 2015 at Hartville Care Center in Hartville, Missouri. She was 90 years, 8 months, and 6 days of age.


Maxine was raised in Wright County, Missouri. She married Don Smith on December 24, 1943 in Tunas, Missouri. Three sons were born to this union: Jerry, Jack, and Dwight.


She was saved and baptized early in her life. She attended Bethel Chapel Church for many years and was always faithful in making sure her family attended church with her.


Maxine was a 4H leader for eighteen years, teaching cake decorating and crocheting. She was the treasurer of the Broyles Cemetery for many years. She also enjoyed gardening, canning, sewing, and cooking. She greatly loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and treasured spending time with them.


Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Don, and her son: Dwight; four brothers: Gene, Gerald, Donald, and Jim; and by two sisters: Marie Garner, and Arlyene Rippee.


She is survived by two sons: Jerry Smith and his wife, Sharon, of Louisville, Kentucky, and Jack Smith and his wife, Wanda, of Hartville, Missouri; one daughter-in-law: Susan Smith of Omaha, Nebraska; one brother: Jesse Gregory and his wife, Aleta, of Springfield, Missouri; six grandchildren: Jeff Smith, Jerry Don Smith, Judy Clinkscales, Monica Satterly, Jon Smith, and Nathan Smith; eleven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many other family and friends who will miss her dearly.


Visitation: Monday, October 12, 2015, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM in the funeral home chapel.

Funeral Service: Monday, October 12, 2015 at 11:00 AM in the funeral home chapel.

Burial: Steele Cemetery, Hartville, Missouri

Memorial Contributions: Leukemia and Lymphoma Society c/o the Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home.
