Mavis Lorine (Bowers) Chasteen was born on September 11, 1937 to proud parents, Oris Edward “Si” and Ruby (Philpott) Bowers in Trinidad Colorado and passed away on November 15, 2007 in the St. John’s Regional Health Center in Springfield, Missouri, following a farm accident one month ago. She was 70 years, 2 months, and 4 days of age. She grew up in Trinidad until 1952, when the family moved to Fordland Missouri. Mavis graduated from Fordland High School in 1955 and a few years later became a flight Attendant for Eastern Airlines.
In 1973, Mavis enrolled in nursing school at SMSU and completed her schooling at St. John’s Nursing School where she attained her registered nursing license. She later served as the director of the Wright County Health Department in Hartville, Missouri. In 1975, Mavis met and married the love of her life, Ray Chasteen. In 1977 they moved to their farm where she spent the next thirty years farming the land, taking care of cattle, and enjoying life.
Mavis was also an avid golfer, enjoying time on the course with friends and family. She and Ray frequently traveled to tournaments and various golf outings enjoying each others company.
Mavis impacted many lives and was loved by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her mother: Ruby Bowers.
She is survived by her husband: Ray Chasteen of their home; her father: Si Bowers of Fordland, Missouri; one sister: Beverly Roberts and her husband, James, of Fordland, Missouri; one brother: Dennis Bowers and his wife, Janice, of Fordland, Missouri; two sons: John Chasteen and his wife, Becky, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Bobby Chasteen and his wife, Kim, of Mtn. Grove, Missouri; five grandchildren: Amy Kempf, Andy and Jonathan Chasteen, Dustin Chasteen and Amber Raney; four great grandchildren: Chas, Karli, Jackson, and Corey; five nieces: Robin Ipock, Tami Twitty, Amber Plemones, Meloney Russell, and Penny Ivy; many great nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends who will sadly miss her.
