Maude Gertrude (Nelson) Campbell, daughter of Jonathan “Harry” and Ellen (Prock) Nelson was born in Mansfield, Missouri on August 3, 1931. She was the fourth born of six children. Maude departed this life at Texas County Memorial Hospital on December 25, 2024 at the age of 93 years, 4 months and 22 days.
Maude’s dad was a lineman and they moved often due to his work of installing electric lines. As she grew, her family moved to various towns, which included Neosho, Missouri, Texarkana, Arkansas, and Roswell, New Mexico.
On January 19, 1947 she was united in marriage to Paul Campbell. Four children were born to this union, Paul E., Diana, Ralph and Pauline. Her husband, Paul, passed away in 1988.
Her chief focus in life was as a homemaker for many years until she started working at the Mountain Grove School cafeteria. As a cook, she continued in work for Head Start and later for Autumn Oaks. She then worked in the deli at both Country Mart and Richard Bros.
Maude was a devout Christian who attended church with Paul at Glendale. She attend The Lighthouse later in life where she served as a board member.
Her grandkids delighted her heart. A special corner cabinet in her kitchen was kept full of snacks to give them when they came to visit. These visits were always the highlight of her day!
She also enjoyed reading, going to singings, and thrifting. As a member of a group called Old Time Singers, she often participated in music parties in the community. Many of these gatherings were held in her home with her family. The need to get out of the house and go somewhere led her to many second hand shopping opportunities that caused her to become known as a “Yard Sale Queen” and “Thrift Store Junkie”.
Maude dearly loved her home of 67 years that was located south of Mountain Grove. Autumn Oaks provided her a residence the last nine months of her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Paul, her siblings, Jim Nelson, Lois Rich, Juanita Smith, Gene Nelson, Jon Nelson, their spouses, all of her brothers-in-law, most of her sisters-in-law, and her son-in-law, Lonnie Sinning.
Maude is survived by her children, Paul (Linda) Campbell, Diana Sinning, Ralph (Susie) Campbell, Pauline (Brad) Jordan, eleven grandchildren, thirty-five great-grandchildren, eighteen great-great-grandchildren and one sister-in-law, Bertha Campbell.
