MaryAnn Frances Anderson, daughter of the late Kenneth and Lillian (Strange) Jensen, was born on October 16, 1932 in Avoca, Iowa, and departed this life on September 29, 2016 at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. She was 83 years, 11 months, and 13 days of age.
MaryAnn was raised in Oakland, Iowa. When she was young, basketball was her life. She played basketball in high school, and her team took second place in the state of Iowa. In 1949, she was the only woman who used both hands to shoot a basketball, and she also won the Scoring Crown for scoring 126 points in the state tournament that same year.
She married Charles Anderson on October 13, 1956 in Houston, Missouri. Three sons were born to this union: Paul, Donnie, and David. MaryAnn was a career military wife. She and Charles lived in many different areas throughout his military career. In 1968, they bought the farm near Mountain Grove. There she raised their boys while Charles finished his time in the service. After retirement, Charles helped the boys with the dairy farm.
MaryAnn worked as a Dairy Health Inspector for several years, collecting milk samples. In her spare time, she enjoyed playing bingo and spending time with her dogs. She raised Boston Terriers and Pomeranians. She also greatly enjoyed being on the farm and spending time with her family. MaryAnn was a very nurturing person. Anytime someone in the family would fall ill, she would step up and take care of them. She has cared for many relatives through terminal illness, and nurtured them through the most difficult time in their lives. She believed that, as long as she was able, she should care for her family rather than putting them in a nursing home.
Besides her parents, MaryAnn was preceded in death by her husband, Charles, on December 20, 1988; by one son: David; and by one great-grandson: Jastin.
She is survived by two sons: Paul Anderson of Mountain View, Missouri, and Donnie Anderson and his wife, Tammy, of Mountain Grove, Missouri; two brothers: Kenny Jensen and Don Jensen, both of Mountain Grove, Missouri; eight grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and other family and friends who will greatly miss her.
