Mary Louise Raney, daughter of the late Simon E. and Cora A. Sears, was born on December 24, 1919 near Sugar City, Colorado, and departed this life on September 28, 2007 in the Autumn Oaks Caring Center in Mtn. Grove, Missouri, following a long illness. She was 87 years, 9 months, and 4 days of age.
Louise moved to Norwood, Missouri with her family when she was five years of age. They made their home on a farm south of town and she attended the Fairview School. On January 9, 1942 she was united in marriage to Frank Robert Raney. They made their home on a farm north of Norwood until Frank passed away in 2002. One son was born to this union.
Louise was a long time member of the Rock Chapel Church north of Norwood and served along with Frank as treasurer of the church for many years.
She enjoyed cooking, sewing, knitting, and doing whatever needed to be done around the farm.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers: James, Nova, Ralph, and Joe; and by two sisters: Margaret and Ruth.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law: Steve and Tabby (McGownd) Raney of Mtn. Grove: one grandson and his wife: Jeremy and Amber (Chasteen) Raney of Mtn. Grove; one granddaughter and her husband: Jamie and Nate Moore of Mansfield, Missouri; one great-grandson: Jackson Raney; several nieces; nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends who will miss her very much.
Funeral services for May Louise Raney were held Tuesday, October 2, 2007, 10:30 in the Rock Chapel Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Stanley Jones officiating. Winston Barnett sang “I’ll Fly Away,” “Beulah Land,” and “If you Knew.” Pallbearers were Eual Carter, Tom Owens, Rusty Sheppard, Mike Housley, Larry Turner, and Larry Marah. Burial was in the Thomas Cemetery under the direction of the Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home, Mtn. Grove, Missouri.
