Mary Bernell Sliger, daughter of the late Thomas Jefferson and Hattie Mae (Wade) Smelser, was born September 10, 1944, in Camden, Arkansas, and passed away December 7, 2017, at her home in Ava, Missouri. She was 73 years, 2 months, and 27 days of age.
Mary married Charles Sliger on July 15, 1962, in Waldo, Arkansas. Mary and Charles were married 55 years.
In 1985, Mary and Charles started Mary’s Care; a medical courier company. Mary really did care. She would work all day and sometimes all night, winter and summer. She never refused to deliver items for the hospitals. At one point, they serviced 23 hospitals in Missouri, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. She was sad when they sold the company but she realized her batteries were slowing down.
Mary and Charles raised eleven children. To this date they are all still alive and out of jail.
Besides her parents, Mary was preceded in death by one brother, John Smelser, one sister, Betty Sue Cooper, and an infant son, Cecil Martin Sliger.
She is survived by seven sons, Clifton Sliger, Cristopher Sliger (Deanna), and Winfred Sliger (Jenny) all of Springfield, Missouri, Curtis Sliger of Ohio, Michael Sliger (Teri), Dakota Sliger, and Charles E. Sliger all of Ava, Missouri, four daughters, Marion Belanger (Joel) of Ash Grove, Missouri, Marsha Stowe (Allen) of Halfway, Missouri, Mary Bernell Sliger of Ohio, and Cheryl Migas of Fort Worth, Texas, two sisters, Martha Toms (Ricky) of Taylor, Arkansas, Rebecca Brown (Gary) of Shreveport, Louisiana, thirty-two grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren, and other relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.
