Mancil Ray Smith

August 13, 1929 — February 5, 2010

Mancil R. Mancil R. Smith, 80, prominent Mtn. Grove area businessman, real estate broker, cattleman and golfer passed away at his home on February 5, 2010 after a lengthy duel with cancer.

He was born August 13, 1929 in Peace Valley, MO to Frank A. Smith and Ether (Bennett) Smith, both of whom preceded him in death. He spent his youth on the family farm with his parents, three brothers and a sister and his large, extended family close by.


Attending West Plains High School, Mancil excelled at basketball and baseball, graduating in 1947. He attended Southwest Missouri State University. During his college years Mancil developed a love for the game of golf and became proficient and competitive, competing in many area golf tournaments and enjoying the companionship of fellow golfers. He also was an avid quail hunter and horseman.


Mancil was an astute and energetic businessman. He was a retail manager and district manager for Carp’s, Inc. for approximately 20 years. In 1970 he started Smith & Company Realtors in Mtn. Grove, operating that company successfully until selling it to Re-Max in 1998. Mancil also developed numerous properties and operated a cattle ranch.


An active member of the community, Mancil served on the Mtn. Grove IDC board of directors, was past president of the Ozark Trails Board of Realtors, and was an active member in the Kiwanis Club and the Chamber of Commerce. An active member and supporter of the Ozarks Property Rights Congress, he was passionate about individual property rights.


He is survived by his lovely wife Shirley of the home. Mancil is also survived by a daughter, Cynthia E. Nelson and husband Kenny of Nocona, TX; a son Randall R. Smith and wife, Toni, of Springfield, MO; a son Christopher A. Smith and wife, Sarah, of the state of Virginia; and a granddaughter, Haley M. Smith of Chicago, IL. Also surviving Mancil are brothers Norman Smith and wife, Dorothy, of Peace Valley, MO; Edwin Smith of Holden, MO; Wendell Smith and wife, Sally of Rogersville, MO; and; a sister Vivian DeShazo of The Lakes, FL. Stepsons Darin Rhoads, Steven Rhoads, Greg Rhoads and a combined total of 8 step grandchildren, all from the state of Oregon. Mancil is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.


Mancil attended the First Free Will Baptist Church in Mtn. Grove and was saved and baptized.

10:00 AM on Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at the 1st Free Will Baptist Church of Mtn. Grove.
