Mabel “Maxine” Hagan, daughter of the late Harold Cephus and Louisa Elizabeth (Roberts) Dobson, was born on April 6, 1928 in Marionville, Missouri and departed this life on Wednesday, February 10, 2010 in the Kabul Nursing Home in Cabool, Missouri following a long illness. She was 81 years, 10 months and 4 days of age.
Maxine grew up in Texas County and graduated from Mtn. Grove High School. She was united in marriage to Alvis Hagan on August 1, 1946 in Dunn, Missouri. Three children were born to this union. They made their home in the Mtn. Grove area where they raised their family.
Maxine enjoyed being outdoors, especially when tending to her vegetable and flower gardens each year. She truly enjoyed raising vegetables and sharing them with those around her. She also enjoyed crocheting and making lap quilts. She also looked forward each year to picking blackberries.
She was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, friend, and neighbor. She truly loved her family and enjoyed doting on her two granddaughters as much as possible. She will be truly missed by those who knew and loved her.
She was a long time member of the Cornerstone Freewill Baptist Church near Mtn. Grove where she enjoyed attending services as long as her health permitted.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter: Carol Jean Gilmore; three brothers: Clarence, Melvin, and John Dobson; an infant brother: James W. Dobson; and by one sister: Ruby Roberts.
She is survived by her loving husband of sixty-three years: Alvis Hagan of their home; one son: Roy Hagan and his wife, Loretta, of Mtn. Grove; one daughter: Diane Afuvai of Southwest City, Missouri; two granddaughters: Laura Asberry and her husband, Patrick, of Springfield, Missouri, and Shannon Hurley and her husband, Dusty, of Southwest City, Missouri; one great-grandson: Boen Zane Hurley; two sisters: Beverly England and Christine Robbins, both of Nixa, Missouri; nieces; nephews; her church family; and a host of other relatives, neighbors and friends.
