Lucille Mae Dean

June 6, 1926 — April 13, 2016

Lucille Mae (Patterson) Dean, daughter of the late Raymond and Verna (Farris) Patterson, was born on June 6, 1926, in Neeleyville, Missouri, and departed this life on April 13, 2016, in Mountain Grove, Missouri. She was 89 years, 10 months, and 7 days of age.
Lucille grew up in Southwestern Missouri and Northwestern Arkansas. She was unable to attend school past elementary, as she was the oldest of 6 children, and helped work in the cotton fields in Arkansas, as well as hacking railroad ties in the woods with her dad.
On November 29, 1942, she met the love of her life. Seventeen short days later, on December 15, 1942, she married Douglas Dean in Mountain View, Missouri. They were married for 65 & years. Every time you looked at them, even in pictures, they were holding hands. Six children were born to this union: Leslie, Cleta, Mable, Charles, Linda K., and Elina.
Lucille and Douglas both accepted Christ as their Savior as young adults and were baptized together at Jack Fork River in Mountain View, where they were living at the time. They made homes throughout Missouri in: Mountain View, Willow Springs, Mansfield, Cabool, and finally Mountain Grove.
Lucille enjoyed her family very much. Her greatest joy was having the children and grandchildren home to cook up big meals for them. It has been said that Lucille could make the best coconut cream pies and homemade bread. Her home was always spotless.
In her earlier years, she did a lot of sewing, making the girls all their dresses. She loved quilting and embroidery, as long as her health allowed. She made quilts for each of her children and grandchildren. Lucille also enjoyed fishing with Douglas. They would go camping at Udall Lake as well. After their children were married, she and Douglas took the adventure of a lifetime to Alaska.
In addition to her parents, Lucille was preceded in death by her husband: Douglas, in May of 2008; her son: Leslie in October of 2008; one brother: and two sisters.
Lucille is survived by five of her children: Cleta Collins and her husband, Sam, of Pomona, Missouri, Mable Cox of Palisade, Colorado, Charles Dean and his wife, Brenda, Linda K. Reed and her husband, Doug, Elina Crewse and her husband, Delbert, all of Mountain Grove, Missouri; one daughter-in-law: Linda (Brassfield) Dean-Poppity; one sister: Zelta Patterson of Illinois; one brother: Sam Patterson of Kansas; 15 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.

The Dean family would like to thank the staff at Autumn Oaks Caring Center and Hospice Compassus for their tender care and kindness.
