Lorine Beatrice “Bea” Pettyjohn, daughter of late Arthur Lint and Goldie (Smallwood) Brumley, was born on February 13, 1929 in Mtn. Grove, Missouri and departed this life on December 23, 2011 in the St. John’s Regional Health Center in Springfield, Missouri, following an extended illness. She was 82 years, 10 months and 10 days of age.
Bea grew up and attended school in Mtn. Grove and graduated from Mtn. Grove High School in 1947. She was united in marriage to Harold Archer Pettyjohn on February 27, 1949. One son was born to this union. They made their home in the Mtn. Grove area for many years. In 2002, Bea and Harold moved to Ozark, Missouri to live closer to their son and daughter-in-law.
Bea began her career as a stenographer with the Missouri Department of Family Services. She worked there for thirty-three years. Following her retirement, she developed a strong interest in antique jewelry and other collectables. She later opened her own shop in Mtn. Grove called “Bizzy Bea’s Collectables.”
Her hobbies included playing the piano, sewing, and writing inspirational poetry.
While living in Mtn. Grove, she attended the First Free Will Baptist Church where she taught children’s Sunday School classes for many years. She also sang in the church choir.
Bea also enjoyed watching her husband fly radio controlled model airplanes.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers: Harold Brumley of Mansfield, Ohio and Howard Brumley of Mtn. Grove, Missouri.
She is survived by her loving husband: Harold Pettyjohn of their home in Ozark, Missouri; her son and daughter-in-law: Jerry and Kay Pettyjohn of Springfield, Missouri; and other relatives, neighbors and friends who will sadly miss her.
