Lola Lorene Johnston, daughter of the late Harley and Arlene (Proctor) Brixey, was born on October 2, 1932 in Denlow, Missouri, and passed from this earth on January 24, 2013 in the Cox South Hospital in Springfield, Missouri, at 80 years of age.
Lorene grew up in Denlow and was united in marriage to Toney Elroy Johnston on December 1, 1952 in Mtn. Home, Arkansas. They moved to Kansas City, Missouri, where their one son, Richard Lee Johnston, was born on December 9, 1955.
In 1958, they moved back to Missouri to live in the Gentryville area, where they began dairy farming. Toney and Lorene truly enjoyed being on the farm, tending to their cows and doing farm chores. Toney passed away on January 1, 2007.
Lorene also loved to embroider, which she did up until her final days. She made many embroidered projects, but was known best for her tea towels. Those around her knew her as the “tea towel lady.”
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother: Dwayne Brixey.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law: Richard and Linda Kaye Johnston of Marshfield, Missouri; one brother: Dean Brixey of Mtn. Grove; three sisters: Bonnie Mullens and her husband, Pete, of Wichita, Kansas, Shirley Brixey of Willow Springs, Missouri, and June Chambers of Memphis, Tennessee; two granddaughters: Phoebe and Josh Ward of Marshfield, Missouri, and Elizabeth Johnston of Salem, Missouri; two great-granddaughters: Madelynn and Shelby Ward; several nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; and many other relatives and friends who will miss her very much.
