Effie "Lois" Reed, daughter of the late Noble E. and Erma H. (Johnson) Rogers, was born on March 6, 1932 in Texas County, Missouri on their home place and departed this earthly home on July 23, 2017 in the Mercy Hospital, Springfield, Missouri. She was 85 years, 4 months, and 17 days of age.
Lois grew up in Texas County on their family farm located on Little Creek Road. She attended school at Little Creek through the 8th grade and graduated from Mountain Grove High School in 1949. Following high school she attended SMS where she obtained her teaching degree. She taught at Chicken Bristle, Oak Grove, and Norwood.
Lois was united in marriage to Charles Reed on November 23, 1955 in Texas County, Missouri. Three daughters were born to this union.
Lois and Charles began their life journey in joining the Reed's Family Business of buying and selling livestock and feed and also hauling livestock to larger markets for the area farmers. In 1964, the Reed family owned and operated a meat processing plant near Mountain Grove. They made their home on Wheeler Arch Road for over forty years. Lois and her little dog "Mattie" later moved to town to become a "City Slicker". She then met her neighbors that became part of her family. Lois enjoyed her little town home where she loved tending to her garden and having her family popping in often to visit. Lois attended the Pentecostal Lighthouse Church in Mountain Grove.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Charles, son-in-law, JayDee Tapp and grandson-in-law, Bobby Hayes.
She is survived by her daughters Nancy Tapp, Lori and Danny Lathrom, all of Mountain Grove and Teena and Terry Bonnarens of Canosnburg, Pennsylvania; seven grandchildren: Kris, Vanilyn (Tommy), Danetta (Billy) Brittany (Wade), Makenzie (fiancee' C.J.), Kieyle & Conner; eight great grandchildren: Jon, Adale, Ellie, Karson, Braxton, Corbin, Wyatt, Hayden, and Dawson James who is to arrive in January; a sister, Phyllis Walker and a brother Charles (Versal) Rogers, all of Mountain Grove; several nieces; nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends who will greatly miss her.
